Iris Catarina Reis – The metamorphosis of the non-present

the metamorphosis of the non-present

This synthesis tension of nature and culture was recognised on site as a force between noisy-existing systems of order, the constructed, and the deconstructed silent presence of nature.

This investigation lies on exploring the semiotic infrathin where the two spheres lose their identity, where they become non-present.

What drives the experiment is the metamorphic tension between a structured systematised planning act, and a paradoxical outcome, that is shown as an unorganised rhizomatic image.

The system, which subsequently was a manual for the act of manipulating, is formed by a 50×50 grid which contains a sequence of numbers for x and y, and a set of 3 methodical and mathematical rules for controlling the overlaying of each movement.

The experiment, offers an orientation, embodying a prefabricated temporal system, followed by a metamorphic performance of seemingly mechanical multiplied acts, which transform the body structure, and subsequently a methodical systemised capturing.

The threshold between the systematic order and the organic chaoticness, the barely perceptible thinness, the fragile and final instant before reality disappears is when a metamorphosis of the non-present happens.
