Symposia on Drawing Architecture 2019-2020

Riet Eeckhout and Arnaud Hendrickx gathered a cohort of architect-drafters, architect-theoreticians and a curator to produce and exhibit a collection of architecture drawings over the course of two years.

For two consecutive years, the group will meet every six months in a symposium about drawing architecture.

Drawing Architecture in this context implies the action of drawing an architecture that is materialised rather than represented within the drawing, where it can be sought, found and experienced.  Drawing Architecture refers to an action in the present progressive, an unfolding nowness, the unraveling process of finding, an action by the author in the process of producing and bringing into the world through drawing, – architectural research through drawing.

They are interested in the knowledge that is processed through drawing and produced within the drawing. Here, the act of drawing is used to unfold and mediate knowledge, and therefore the physical drawing is the place where this knowledge should be sought and understood. These symposiums are events where the actual drawings are present and, instead of a written paper, the drawing structures the content and proceedings.

The architecture drawing collection and research content produced during these two years will be exhibited and published by 2021.

1st symposium is in New York on Thursday 4th – Friday 5th of April 2019
2nd symposium is in London, Greenwich university in October 2019
3rd symposium, April 2020
4th symposium, Sept 2020
