Open Call: International Student Workshop – Port City Talks. Istanbul. Antwerp.

17-21 January 2016, MAS Antwerp

An international student workshop is organised as one of the events of the finissage of the ‘Port City Talks. Istanbul. Antwerp.’ (Europalia Turkey). The finissage of the exhibition “Port City Talks. İstanbul. Antwerp.” wishes to present the content and reflections of the exhibition to a broader audience of architects, urban planners, maritime historians, critics, journalists, consultants, artists and port authorities and students.
The finissage event would like to further investigate the themes explored in “Port City Talks. Istanbul. Antwerp.” exhibition. The goal is to open up a general debate on the concept of port cities and their future developments and rehabilitation practices.
The event would like to create a collective intelligence and to share ideas & notions on harbour cities. The workshop would focus on developing and exploring an understanding of the dynamics of Antwerp and Istanbul as contemporary and future harbour cities.
This four-day workshop is organised by the curator of the exhibition: architect M. Tabanlioglu, one of the leading architects of Turkey. Students from Istanbul Bilgi University Istanbul (TR), Hafencity University Hamburg (DE), and the Faculty of Architecture KU Leuven (BE) will collaborate and designerly reflect on the spatial, historical and cultural system of harbour transformation sites.
