Takeshi Hayatsu is a qualified architect with 25 years of experience in London, specialising in community-led, craft-based, and co-design approaches. He studied in Tokyo and London before working at David Chipperfield Architects, Haworth Tompkins, and 6a Architects, and founded Hayatsu Architects in 2017.

Hayatsu Architects is a London-based practice working across arts, heritage, and community projects. Recognised in New Architects 4 and Wallpaper’s Architects’ Directory, the practice’s award-winning work integrates craft, history, and material innovation to create engaging public and cultural spaces.

The practice’s work is characterised by crafted, thoughtful, sensitive, and playful approaches tailored to unique situations and the needs of users. Hayatsu Architects believes that well-considered, well-made buildings can have a positive impact on individual lives and the wider community.

Today’s construction industry is often regarded as a harmful human activity for the planet. The practice’s mission is to create a better world in which humans and nature can coexist harmoniously, through careful consideration of materials, construction, conservation, and community. This sensitivity stems from an in-depth knowledge of working with historic buildings. Through such projects, Hayatsu Architects has developed a distinctive approach to creating innovative and characterful spaces that integrate seamlessly with their historic contexts, achieved through carefully crafted material interventions and hands-on construction methods.
