Volunteer researcher Dr. Bram De Maeyer is the author of the book Building for Belgium: Belgian Embassies in a Globalizing World (1945-2020). The book analyzes the Belgian embassy construction program and examines whether and to what extent the Ministry of Foreign Affairs invested in diplomatic architecture as a means of expressing national identity abroad. The book discusses several prominent building projects of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, such as the embassies in Washington, D.C., New Delhi, Tokyo, and Kinshasa. This publication stems from De Maeyer’s doctoral research (2017-2023) at our faculty under the supervision of Professor Fredie Floré and Professor Anne-Françoise Morel.
