Liedewij Deruwe ‘Between Space’

The video between space, is the documentation of the process of the drawing. More than 600 frames were used to capture all the views. The whole process is about finding the spatial between drawn elements, where in the act of drawing is a slow process. Because of that the development of this spaces took place over multiple weeks.
During the movie the space develops and changes. Starting from a rough sketch to a valuable space. But even in the beginning, depth can be found. The spatial is more than a static view of one place. By bringing ‘time’ in a drawing, places get dynamic and changeable. The spatial is not something finished, it’s a process.
By time the space could change by implementing new structures every week, elements that are found in daily environment. The inspiration objects are applied as synthesis of known space. Analyzing this interesting architecture and its details, gave all the freedom to express the values of the new space, a hybrid space.
By combining elements with its characteristics, a new dynamic space grows between de various elements. Where the drawer has a role as re-inventor. To evolve the evolution of dynamic space in the drawing, a flexible drawing technic was used: pen, pastel, tape, and pencil on Steinbach paper. The 850 mm x 640 mm big area could change over 5 weeks by erasing, cutting, taping, and layering so spaces could appear.
