Francesca Paoli ‘What is left?’

The project was born from an immense passion for Italian auteur cinema and from the intention to tell something of my italian culture. Starting from a research of fragments, collecting minutes and images, it was interesting search for spaces characterized by a particular atmosphere, through architectures, objects, lights, schenography. Extracting parts of these scenes, such as the statue of Nero or architectures or a corridor of a fascist architecture located in the Eur district of Rome, it was possible to create a kind of exposition, a navigation between various atmosphere, architecture, piece of the daily life. It is interesting to understand how architecture works as a palimpsest, how different spaces and materials collide, what can happen if you combine marble and concrete: this is the hybrid space for me. For this reason different types of scenes are included, from a simple room in a station in the Seventies to Roman ruins. The intention was to compare small spaces and large indoor and outdoor spaces, the different materials and understand what happens. I chose the pencil and not to include the colors or people, although predominant character of some films, in order to create my personal interpretations, my own world a little surreal and dreamy.
