Haris Mohammad ‘Memorability as an Image’

Oxford dictionary defines Brutalism as ‘A Stark of Style’ of functionalist architecture, characterized by the use of steel and concrete in massive blocks.
Based on several film/fragments that incorporated brutalist architecture in its settings the characterisation of buildings in concrete and metal form emphasis on futurism and dystopian approach.
Brutalism invoked the monotonous and melancholic impressions which express how the characters fell in the film segments; trapped.
These settings bring the audiences to capture the essence of agitation and exhaustion due to its repeated tone in every single inch of most of the brutalist structures.
It is the idea of Brutalism, making the raw materials that are usually hidden beneath the surface as the true protagonist. Embracing the sculptural qualities and epitomizes monumentality while achieving formalism.
The idea of ‘IT IS WHAT IT IS’ in Brutalism that makes it very effectual.
The project is about how a futuristic super brutalism metropolis would age and how and endless man made landscape constructed of mainly concrete and asphalt would look like.
What impact would such a massive construction of sculptural architecture have on mankind?
Could such a city succeed in producing a functional society or would it automatically plunge into menacing social dysfunction.
Before the industrial revolution we saw nature as an omnipresent force. We were dwarfed by its power. But also mesmerised and drawn towards it. But now, nature has been diminished and we have released another kind of sublime. The futuristic industrial sublime. And now we are dwarfed in our own creation.
The project is highly inspired by this idea of dystopian future where nature is gone. We are surrounded by massive super structures which are our own creation.
In this brutalism architecture, I find Drama, sculpturality, massive monumentality and haptic quality.
Also, the drawings are inspired by the works of Rick Gooding, Louis Kahn, Giuseppe Terragni and Japanese Brutlist Architecture.
