This Wednesday, we welcome Johan Nielsen to the sofa, he is a teacher and Phd at our faculty as well as director of The Brussels-based practice manger.nielsen. His office focusses on projects –both new and adaptive reuse- involving sensitive programs such as social housing, cultural spaces, youth centers, and schools.
We will discuss the everyday and socio-economic reality of owning an architecture office -the good the bad and the ugly- before we get into the main topic of the talk of socially sensitive programs and projects of adaptive reuse. How do these two mutually reinforce each other, how to juggle a rich sociocultural and heritage context at the same time and what might that teach us?
Through his teachings we might get a better grasp of the many different positions and conflicts an architect working today mediates between.
