De omgeving van het station van Namen is een echte toegang tot de stad, een overgangsgebied naar het historische centrum. De place Léopold (Leopoldplein) is een centrale plaats die deel uitmaakt van een ontwikkelingsproject in de stedelijke herverkavelingsperimeter onder de naam “Quartier Léopold”. Deze is op 20 juni 2022 ter goedkeuring voorgelegd aan de gemeentelijke autoriteiten.
Het project houdt echter geen rekening met de belangrijkste bestaande elementen, met name het C&A-gebouw dat in 1969-70 werd gebouwd door de architecten Léon Stynen en Paul De Meyer. Dit gebouw is niet zomaar een oud gebouw, integendeel. Op www.change.org vind je de petitie en argumenten die in overweging genomen moeten worden om de sloop ervan te verbieden en over te gaan tot de bescherming van het gebouw.

The area surrounding Namur station is a real gateway to the city, a transition area to the historic center. Place Léopold (Square Leopold) is a central place that is part of a development project in the urban reallocation perimeter under the name “Quartier Léopold”. This was submitted to the municipal authorities for approval on 20 June 2022.
However, the project does not take into account the main existing elements, in particular the C&A building built in 1969-70 by the architects Léon Stynen and Paul De Meyer.
