Next Wednesday, we welcome architect and textile designer Helen Van de Vloet to the Sofa. Following last week’s talk on activism and the city, Helen joins us to speak on the topic of institutional activism.
As a co-founder of the spatial practice Specs and a teacher at the faculty since 2022, Helen’s work operates at the intersection of architecture, scenography, and urban research. Through her current residency, ‘Chronografictie,’ she is investigating the role and future of our faculty, specifically how we teach, structure ourselves, and build community within the school.
We will discuss various forms of institutional activism, asking how to drive change from within without “burning bridges.” We will also reflect on the relationship between student and teacher activism. In the transient environment of the university, how can we ensure that both knowledge and concerns are passed down through the years?
