Congratulations to Renée Sykora, a Master of Architecture graduate from the Sint-Lucas Ghent Campus, whose master’s thesis, “Out Of Reach. On the Threshold of a Hanging Landscape in Naples; Seven Spatial Gestures” (supervised by Tomas Ooms), was selected for the WE ARE THE NEXT GENERATION exhibition. This exhibition, part of the WONDER Creativity Festival at the Budafabriek in Kortrijk, runs from October 16 to November 2, 2025.
“In Naples, Renée Sykora investigates how architecture can give meaning to places we are not allowed or able to enter. In Bagnoli, a heavily polluted former industrial site, she focuses not on the site itself, but on the threshold: the edge zone, marked by a six-kilometer-long wall. Not redevelopment, but an ode to time, soil, and public space.”
From 228 submissions, 37 projects were selected by an external jury. They assessed the projects based on social relevance, innovative strength, sustainability, exposure, and quality within the context of the exhibition. Read more about the exhibition at wonder-festival.be.
