Shaimaa College is guest in the next sofa-talk, it is also topic of discussion.
Shaimaa College was the student encampment set up at college De Valk in solidarity with the movement around the world protesting the Gaza war. The students called for an academic boycott of Israel and demanded from the KU Leuven to cut ties with Israeli universities. The occupation started after the International Court of Justice found it is plausible that Israel has committed acts of genocide. We will discuss the issue with Aliki Tzouvara and Haifa Saleh, two researchers that were involved in the encampment. Aliki Tzouvara is an architect and urbanist, her research at KU Leuven deals with the role of social movements in city-making. Haifa Saleh is an architect and urbanist, her research at KU Leuven deals with anti-colonial indigenous practices for social-ecological spatial justice. We hope to learn more about the function of architecture in colonial and anti-colonial practices.
