Van 22 april tot en met 1 mei wordt Gent het walhalla van creativiteit. Design Fest Gent geeft ontwerpers een podium op verschillende locaties in de stad. Een uitgebreide waaier aan installaties, workshops en lezingen exploreert duurzaamheid in al z’n facetten: van ecologie over food waste tot water.
De Faculteit Architectuur is erg trots om partner te zijn in dit nieuwe festival. Bovendien kan je gedurende het festival drie projecten van onze faculteit bekijken in het Design Museum:
1. On Circular Materials and Processes (studio master in de architectuur, Campus Sint-Lucas Brussel)
Architectuurstudenten ontwikkelden experimentele ongebakken bouwmaterialen met lokale en ecologische (afval)grondstoffen, gebruik makend van traditionele ambachtelijke kennis en hedendaagse innovatieve technologie. Daarmee werden klimaatvriendelijke projecten ontworpen voor verlaten kleiputten in Vlaanderen en voormalige natuursteengroeves in Wallonië.
2. NEST (project in samenwerking met LUCA, iDrops, met studenten en alumni van de Faculteit Architectuur, KU Leuven)
NEST is een nomadische installatie op de grens van textiel en architectuur. Als tactiele safe space wil NEST geborgenheid bieden en ruimte maken voor ontmoetingen en verbindingen. NEST past binnen het pilootproject 2Spaces van iDrops dat het psychosociale welzijn van jongvolwassenen met kanker of chronische zieken ondersteunt.
3. HALL14, how to speak as many? (in kader van doctoraatsproject van Breg Horemans en onderzoeksgroep TAAT)
HALL14 wordt ontwikkeld als een kunstinstallatie die ontmoetingen tussen menselijke en anders-dan-menselijke entiteiten mogelijk maakt. Het streeft naar een regeneratief ontwerpproces: het ontwikkelen van een architectuur die bijdraagt aan een gezonde planeet. HALL14 heeft de vorm van een co-creatieproces waarbij ontwerpers, studenten en planten in een wederzijdse en meerstemmige dialoog worden betrokken.

From April 22 to May 1, Ghent will become the mecca of creativity. Design Fest Gent gives designers a stage at various locations in the city. An extensive range of installations, workshops and lectures explores sustainability in all its facets: from ecology to food waste to water.
The Faculty of Architecture is very proud to be a partner in this new festival. Moreover, during the festival you can view three projects of our faculty in the Design Museum:
1. On Circular Materials and Processes (studio master in architecture, Campus Sint-Lucas Brussels)
Architecture students developed experimental unbaked building materials with local and ecological (waste) raw materials, making use of traditional craft knowledge and contemporary innovative technology. In this way, climate-friendly projects were designed for abandoned clay pits in Flanders and former natural stone quarries in Wallonia.
2. NEST (project in collaboration with LUCA, iDrops, with students and alumni of the Faculty of Architecture, KU Leuven)
NEST is a nomadic installation on the border of textile and architecture. As a tactile safe space, NEST wants to offer security and make room for encounters and connections. NEST fits within the 2Spaces pilot project of iDrops that supports the psychosocial well-being of young adults with cancer or chronically ill.
3. HALL14, how to speak as many? (in the context of doctoral project of Breg Horemans and research group TAAT)
HALL14 is being developed as an art installation that allows encounters between human and other-than-human entities. It strives for a regenerative design process: developing an architecture that contributes to a healthy planet. HALL14 takes the form of a co-creation process involving designers, students and plants in a mutual and polyphonic dialogue.
