Book / ‘Ooit zal ik iemand zijn. Vriend zonder papieren’ by Jan Bleyen

Historian Jan Bleyen listened to the experiences of Manso, his former student from a Dutch course: how he left Sierra Leone as a boy, became a man and has lived in Belgium for ten years, without papers.

In clever, candid and sometimes funny fragments from his daily life, Manso tells about the past, present and later – a life course that Charlotte Peys captures in poignant drawings.

Jan Bleyen teaches ‘Mens en Maarschappij’ (Human Society) at the Faculty of Architecture. In terms of content and method, the book is in line with the course unit, which approaches dealing with the built environment – and our environment in a broader sense – from a social and cultural point of view.
