Performance / SLEEPERS/DREAMERS by MISANTHROPOZINE 30/06 – 02/07

How to work in your time to be in your time?
As a warm-up to ‘Institution Building’ (exhibition opening end of August in CIVA), they are plotting a 60-hour performance, triggered by Mondial Festival, an event by SUPERSTUDIO and 9999 at Florence club Space Electronic in 1971. This festival was a pedagogic experiment, an alternative school of architecture, that saw the club transformed into an underground forest with trees, a lake, rocks, and bathed in projections and sounds. Fifty years later, we need alternative systems, spaces and experiences for school-making and sharing also. But what is there to share? And what kind of architect can we become?

DATES: Wednesday, June 30, 2021 – Friday, July 2, 2021
TYPE OF VISIT: Online performance
HOURS: Continuously from 30 June 12:00 to 2 July 00:00
DURATION: 60 hour-marathon
Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/sleepersdreamers
CURATOR(S): MISANTHROPOZINE (Pieterjan Ginckels, Studio Snowflake + guests)

The protagonists of SLEEPERS/DREAMERS will lock themselves in a green-keyed primitive hut, and accelerate the coming of age of a new maker. On a landscape sprinkled with post-millennial souvenirs and SUPERLACK modules, the SLEEPERS/DREAMERS try to live for three days and two nights, live-streamed to a remote audience. During those 60 hours, they search for connections or updates of SUPERSTUDIO’s radical search for life beyond and despite of architecture and its nurturing systems. Trapped in a loop of oversaturated images, positions, beliefs and agendas, the SLEEPERS/DREAMERS must find ways to work. Crushed on the left and cuddled to death on the right by agents of self-referential orthodoxies, they lay paralyzed. Perhaps the only thing they need is sleep?

And as our dummies doze off into voxel dreamlands, they hold tight to their screens, airing a snowflakey goo of tutorials, videos and guest appearances to you, dear onlookers. Caring for avocados, adjusting ring lights, idling to the tender voicings of old sweet ceremonies, radiating a present but dreaming beyond. Will you join the SLEEPERS/DREAMERS, broadcasting our slow surrender to the obsessions, fears, hopes and secrets that come with living and working in a duck-faced, caffeinated culture?

PS: the après-ski of SLEEPERS/DREAMERS is plotted also: the chromakey vessel used as the performance’s incubator will transform into NO CLUB, a members only, cool-critical whisky bar. Keep an eye out for details on how and when to enter, for more spirited, collective sleeping and dreaming.

30 June 2021 12:00 — 2 July 00:00

Featuring: Hantrax, Olga Ravn, Common Accounts, The New Originals, Sugiberry, Oana Stanescu, Bent Von Bent, Architects’ Lil Berghain (with Nosedrip, Eimi Leggett, Pieterjan Ginckels, Studio Snowflake), Laura Linsi & Roland Reema, Leah Wulfman

Wednesday 30 June, 9pm
King of the Antwerp electro-underground Hantrax’ hobby is making dolls, and playing with them on @Hantraxdolls. For the occasion, Hantrax will make songs for the avatars of SLEEPERS/DREAMERS.

Olga Ravn
Every night
SLEEPERS/DREAMERS comes with a night mode; we’ll whisper bedtime stories to each other, and to you: log in to our virtual dream world, and rest your avatar in AirPods while we read The Employees by Olga Ravn.

Common Accounts
From Thursday 1 July
Igor Bragado and Miles Gertler supply a looping ritual, which is performed by our protagonists on grave hours. Alkaline Swamp II might be just what they need (x2).

The New Originals
Thursday 1 July, all day
“Creatives are the new athletes!” So goes Amsterdam streetwear brand The New Originals’ punchline. And we happen to try and exhaust the latter rather than the former. Can the SLEEPERS/DREAMERS flip the script?

Thursday 1 July, 10am
Mayu Takasugi from South African/Japanese architecture duo Sugiberry performs a classical tea ceremony for our SLEEPERS/DREAMERS, who then join her to transform the ritual into a protein ceremony using meal powders and protein bars. Powered by @NOBULLFASTER and Huel.

Bent Von Bent
Thursday 1 July, 2pm, Friday 2 July, 2pm
Antwerp composer Bent Von Bent provides the soundtrack to strange afternoon naps. Tributary to Jungian dream analysis, our siësta music revolves around the magic number 9.

Oana Stanescu
From Thursday 1 July
SLEEPERS/DREAMERS’ green hut has no vistas, no horizons, except for those dreamed by its dwellers. Oana however grants us a look out of her Berlin office window, by means of a flatscreen that occasionally will be installed in our shared space. A hole in the box.

Architects’ Lil Berghain
SLEEPERS/DREAMERS celebrates the intimacy of our screens, and lures you into a succession of digital atmospheres. Look out for invite URLs.
Thursday 1 July, all night long, featuring:
DJ, label boss and music collector Nosedrip is a ghost of honour. His avatar will swerve around Architects’ Lil Berghain, idling to the tender voicings of old sweet ceremonies.

Eimi Leggett
Eimi will become our fifth Beatle. Recently graduated PARTS choreographer and dancer, Eimi joins the family for Thursday night’s events at Architects’ Lil Berghain, where she performs Liveliness on screen, and offers some TikTok-coaching.

Pieterjan Ginckels
Initiator Pieterjan Ginckels designed and built the pavilion for SLEEPERS/DREAMERS. During the performance, PJG will transform the chromakey vessel into NO CLUB, a members only, cool-critical whisky bar, with the help of the audience and his co-dreamers.

Studio Snowflake
Watch the premiere of “Studio Snowflake Becomes…” from your lava tub, or a pizza carpet.

Laura Linsi & Roland Reema
Friday 2 July, recurring
London based architects and curators Laura Linsi and Roland Reema might be going through some bottleneck deadline phase. Still, we will find moments to connect, and do some stretching.

Leah Wulfman
Friday 2 July, 9pm
As SLEEPERS/DREAMERS reaches its finale, why don’t you join a collective moment of cleansing? Prepare yourself a bath, and join the Sauna Siluria zoom! Leah will perform a loose bathing routine and video piece that mines the internet and its associated geologies. Leah and participants will be immersed in a steamy primordial soup of technologies, geologies, slime and servers dredged up from the sea floor, and gay ass rocks. Tune in to watch the stream and join her Zoom from your bathtub.

Protagonists: Pieterjan Ginckels, Eva Demulder, Lars Marcoen, Sarah Tilley, Ferre Vander Elst.
Morning TV content by snowflakey peers and the internet.
Live on Twitch, Mozilla Hubs, OnlyFans, and Zoom.
