Symposium / Drawing Attention 25/09

The drawing is dead, long live the drawing!
Architect Jef Van Ranst had a dream to get young talents drawing again and considered the drawing made by hand as an expression of a thought, act or design process, rather than the drawing as an artistic artifact. Every year, the Jef Van Ranst Foundation looks for design drawings that visually express a process, an idea or a spatial proposal.

During the Festival van de architectuur you will discover the winners of the Jef Van Ranst 2019 Prize at the ‘Drawing Attention‘ exhibition. Fast sketches are interspersed with elaborate drawings. A jury of four, Tony Freton (Tony Fretton Architects), Inge Vinck (architecten de vylder vinck taillieu), Dirk Somers (Bovenbouw Architectuur) en Philippe van Goethem (SVR-ARCHITECTS), make the selection.

You can visit the exhibition daily between 9 am and 6 pm in the KU Leuven Faculty of Architecture, Campus Sint-Lucas Ghent, Hoogstraat 51, 9000 Gent.

Subsequently, the eponymous symposium will take place on 25 September( starting at 6.30 pm) which brings together contributions on the position, making and value of the architectural drawing in the design process.

‘Drawing Attention’ is an initiative of the Stichting Jef Van Ranst in collaboration with KU Leuven, UAntwerpen, UGent, UHasselt, VUB and the Vlaams Architectuurinstituut.
