In January 2025, the final evaluation of The Great Repair studio took place on location in the Star Europe building in Brussels. The setting itself underscored the themes of the studio: working with what is already there, questioning the culture of repair, and exploring its architectural, social, and poetic dimensions.
The students presented a wide variety of outcomes, reflecting the breadth of approaches within the studio. The results ranged from on-site interventions and an exhibition set-up, to a book on “shitty repairs,” the restoration of a single sash window in Dublin, and even the poetic story of gently helping an inclined bunker to lay down.
Together, these projects show how repair can be more than a technical fix. It can be a cultural act, a narrative, and a way of engaging with the built environment that is attentive, critical, and imaginative.
