Positioning is the program of study in which students reflect on their role as designers within a broader societal and disciplinary context. Design assignments depart from societal urgencies, technological developments, and personal fascinations. Students learn to formulate and visualize positions, making them tangible through spatial interventions. Positioneren creates a space for collective reflection and stimulates a critical dialogue about the role of design in a speculative future.
This studio invites students to take a critical look at our living environment and to use the media forms of modelmaking and film tactically to understand and depict. This happens both in terms of form and content. We try to understand what values she communicates and what the underlying socio-cultural layers are that play a role in this. The image and the construction of the perspective as a film set form the core of our approach, which is focussed on research and experiment. The studio is conceived as a collective that offers multiple perspectives on the contemporary city in which we live. Both images and imagery as well as reflection are central to this. In addition to the framing, materiality and light are also decisive: they create atmosphere, influence how the space is read and bring certain elements to the foreground or background. By experimenting with scale, camera position and cinematic movements (such as pan, tilt, zoom and travelling), students investigate how these factors together create the structure of a space.
