NL: Op donderdag 28 maart 2019 wordt Élise van Thuyne uitgenodigd in het kader van de opdrachten ‘Mapping the Field’ (Bachelor Interieurarchitectuur) om een lezing te geven over haar eigen werk en over hoe zij zich positioneert binnen het veld van de interieurarchitectuur.
Élise Van Thuyne rolde dertien jaar geleden van de vertaalstiel in de interieurwereld. Ze gaat erg structureel te werk, bekijkt alles vanuit de context en reageert hierop. Haar werkwijze is dan ook te vergelijken met een linguïst: als taalkundige onderzoekt ze eerst het systeem en vervolgens grijpt ze hierop in. Dit doet ze ook met interieurs.
Élise schrijft een verhaal in haar projecten aan de hand van materialen. Ze renoveert een huis zoals ze een verhaal zou schrijven. Haar verhalende werkwijze fascineert de bezoeker en neemt hem mee op een reis door haar interieurs.
In het werk van Élise gaat het vaak over de gelaagdheid door de tijd. Ze herleidt het te renoveren huis tot de essentie door lagen te verwijderen. Een essentie waarbij ze bepaalde sporen uit het verleden behoudt en integreert in haar projecten. Net deze gelaagdheid en de aanwezigheid van elementen uit het verleden geven de ruimte meer betekenis, prikkelen de bewoner en openen de ogen.

EN: On Thursday, March 28, 2019, Élise van Thuyne will be invited as part of the Mapping the Field assignments (Bachelor Interior Architecture) to give a lecture (in Dutch) about her own work and how she positions herself within the field of interior architecture.
Thirteen years ago Élise Van Thuyne changed from the translation business to the world of interior architecture. She works very structurally, looks at everything from the context and responds to it. Her methods can therefore be compared with those of a linguist: as a linguist she first examines the system and then she intervenes. She also does this with interiors.
Élise writes a story in her projects using materials. She is renovating a house as she would write a story. Her narrative method fascinates the visitor and takes him on a journey through her interiors.
In the work of Élise, it is often about the stratification of time. She reduces the house to be renovated to the essence by removing layers. An essence in which she retains certain traces from the past and integrates them into her projects. Just this layering and the presence of elements from the past give the room more meaning, stimulate the resident and open the eyes.
