Everyday there is a game between light and darkness, two opposites but inseparable. Both are equally important for the perception and experience of space. These shadows, created by diverse light sources, give space another dimension. They create atmospheres, interests. When the light changes, the space changes with it, whether it’sartificial or natural light.
The dim light tries to illuminate the space covered in darkness. You are only
capable of observing certain parts of this space, the rest lies still in the shadows, left to the imagination. The desire to explore what lies behind arises, the darkness, the depth, a totally different world. How accurate is the imaginary space you come up with? Influenced by memories or past experiences. How close is it to reality?
In my film, I give myself the power to control that light. I decide what you get to see and when. I staged it. Just like the architectural elements which I borrowed from the films ‘Stalker’ and ‘Nostalghia’ directed by Andrei Tarkovsky. I tried to combine them with each other as well as to the original fragments of Tarkovsky. When the
architectural elements emerge they create depth and other spaces within the fragments. Together they reveal the narrative.
