Intersecting Flows of Perception
Wandering Among the Fragments Of Charleroi

When you stand somewhere.
Do you just stand in that space?
                      one

This project explores the city of Charleroi through a collection of fragments, drawn from personal experiences and the exploration of its various spaces. These fragments represent different facets of the city, capturing both its physical presence and the emotional responses it evokes. Rather than simply documenting the city, the project seeks to investigate how individuals connect with it on a deeper, perceptual level. For example, when I visited the Charleroi, I noticed a small patch of grass under a tree in the park—the same species I had seen earlier by the canal near the factory. In that moment, my mind seemed to flow between spaces. I found myself back at the canal, hearing the bird songs of the park and the noise of factory together. So, by abstractly reassembling these elements in unexpected ways, it challenges familiar perceptions and invites viewers to form deeper, more personal connections.

Four distinct scenarios were created, each blending different perceptual fragments to reflect the mental and emotional shifts that occur as one moves through the city. These scenarios do not aim to depict any specific part of Charleroi, but instead seek to convey the fluid, evolving nature of urban experience. As viewers wandering through these scenes, their own memories and experiences influence how they interact with the fragments, making each experience unique and personal. This interaction may invite a new way of engaging with the city, one shaped by individual histories and emotions.

The perception is dynamic—constantly shifting across time and space. By interweaving different moments, locations, and dimensions, and making the video from wandering through scenarios. Creating a perspective for viewers to reimagine Charleroi, rediscovering the city through their own emotional and imaginative lenses. It invites a departure from conventional boundaries, allowing for a personal, redefined connection to the city.
