The international multidisciplinary summer school Systemic Design for Health (organised by the KU Leuven Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Architecture, Chiang Mai University, Thailand) was the fourth in a series of similar initiatives that have been held every year since 2022 in cooperation with partner universities in Southeast Asia. These intercultural, multidisciplinary events offer students and instructors from the participating institutions the opportunity to share and exchange insights on health care systems based local case studies, field visits and intense workshops. Their collaborative effort focuses on the development of innovative propositions bridging preparedness and response, engineering, healthcare systems and environmental controls for primary healthcare centres in flood-prone suburban and rural settings in Southeast Asia.
This year’s event was hosted by the Faculty of Architecture of Chiang Mai University (ARCHCMU), in cooperation with the Chiang Mai University Multidisciplinary and Interdisciplinary School (MIDS) and inputs from experts and professionals from the faculties of Public Health and Medical Technology as well as staff of the CMU Sriphat Hospital.
