Edward Janssen’s graduation project, “Vast Vloeibaar Gas” (Solid Liquid Gas) has been selected for the WE ARE THE NEXT GENERATION exhibition. This exhibition forms the heart of the WONDER Creativity Festival at the Budafabriek in Kortrijk and runs from October 16 to November 2, 2025.
Edward completed his Master’s thesis in the master studio ‘Grand Tour’ (Campus Sint-Lucas Ghent, supervised by Carl Bourgeois and Hugo Vanneste).
The project explores architecture through the continuous transformations of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. Starting from the experience of an abandoned data center in Brussels in a liminal state, architecture is approached not as a static object, but as a dynamic process that mediates between forces, movements, and energies. Through the metaphors of states of matter, it becomes clear how architecture can function as an interface: a filter and a link that helps shape our experience of space and body.
From 228 submissions, 37 projects were selected by an external jury. They assessed their social relevance, innovative strength, sustainability, exhibitability, and quality within the context of the exhibition. More information about the exhibition: wonder-festival.be.
