Please join us at CIVA on September 4, 19h00, for the book launch of Real Life Brussels, a new book that puts the transformation of 20th century social housing on the agenda. Edited by BMA, CIVA and KU Leuven, the book includes ongoing projects, reflexive texts, student work, transcripts of a series of on-site debates with architects, commissioners, and inhabitants, and photographic surveys. The book tackles the challenges linked to renovation: the life cycle of various materials is coming to an end, the integration of housing into the urban fabric needs to be reviewed, the habitability and functionality of the buildings have to be improved, the involvement of residents requires new strategies.
The book launch features a conversation moderated by Kristiaan Borret (Bouwmeester – BMA), with Anne Kockelkorn (UGent), Pauline Durand (Kaderstudio), and Sébastien Morineau (SLRB/BGHM).
