POST-DIGITAL MEDIA ECOLOGIES: Joris Putteneers & Fieldstation Studio
(Lecture in English)
Joris Putteneers and Fieldstation Studio will guide you through several of their projects and collaborations, presented as a compressed, data rich, performative and speculative media trip reflecting on our post-digital condition.
In order to navigate this contemporary state, they expand the architectural toolbox of their practices with computational design, data visualisation, sensors, machine learning and artificial intelligence, data scraping and narrative and time-based media.
The lecture will explore the agency of emerging technologies and media and their impact on the culture and practice of architecture, and how they mediate our relations with each other and our environments.

Joris Putteneers is an architect and researcher, interested in speculating the Anthroposcene through means of software, hardware and media technologies. His work has been exhibited at MoMA New York, London Design Festival, Venice Biennale and multiple film festivals. He has taught studios and workshops internationally at the Bartlett UCL, Texas A&M, KU Leuven Faculty of Architecture and TU Wien. Since 2017 he is active in his practice where he develops software solutions catering for architects and designers.

Corneel Cannaerts is an architect and postdoctoral researcher, interested in the impact of emerging technologies on the culture and practice of architecture. He has obtained a Master in Architectural Engineering from Ghent University and a PhD in Architecture from RMIT University Melbourne. He is currently conducting research and lecturing at the Faculty of Architecture KU Leuven, and runs Fieldstation Studio, a speculative architectural design studio combining research, teaching and practice.

Michiel Helbig is interested in the interspaces between media and disciplines. He has obtained a Master in Architecture from the University of Antwerp and a Master in Digital Arts from the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. In his practice he explores the boundaries of architecture, art, music, film and design, creating audiovisual works and moments and in situ installations and scenographies. He is currently lecturing and coördinating Lab-O at the KU Leuven Faculty of Architecture, and runs Fieldstation Studio, a speculative architectural design studio exploring the impact of emerging technologies and media on our environments through research, teaching and practice.

The Going Public’ lectures are open for everyone and free of charge.
