On 17 January 2023, publisher Artha presented the book Riverside Tower Antwerpen during a book launch in DE SINGEL. The Riverside Tower by architects Stynen & De Meyer is undoubtedly one of the most iconic buildings on Antwerp’s Linkeroever (Left Bank). The first residential tower with a green roof in Belgium is now fifty years old: modern heritage.
Author Marc Dubois studied the construction history of the tower, with special attention to the magnificent penthouse on the twentieth floor, based on previously unpublished archive material, largely kept in the Flanders Architecture Institute (VAi).
Marc Dubois took the initiative for this book as a tribute to two important Belgian architects. The text discusses the Linkeroever, the Boerentoren and the design process of the Riverside Tower (1969-1972). You will also find a selection of Stynen’s work before 1940 and of the Stynen & De Meyer collaboration, including previously unpublished documents and photos.
The book contains two visual essays. In 2015, Filip Dujardin photographed the impressive roof apartment and was able to capture the original condition for the first and last time. The second visual essay, with photos by Jean-Pierre Gabriel, shows the renovation by Glenn Sestig Architects. An English text (10 pages) is available at the back of the book.
