On Wednesday 28/10 we will welcome Léopold Lambert on the sofa, to talk about The Funambulist. Léopold is a trained architect turned writer, editor and podcaster, and the editor-in-chief of The Funambulist, a bilingual magazine dedicated to the politics of space and bodies.
Started in 2015, the magazine has since operated at the crossroads of architecture, academia and activism, formulating spatial approaches to anticolonial, antiracist, queer and feminist struggles around the world, examining how cities concretize settler colonialism, what uprisings and liberation movements teach us about gender, and what everyday objects and spaces can tell us about other possible futures.
Léopold’s own research examines the inherent violence of architecture and its political instrumentalization, across fields of investigation including Palestine, the French banlieues, Fortress Europe and U.S. cities. He is the author of several books on the matter, including Weaponized Architecture: The Impossibility of Innocence (2012), Topie Impitoyable (2016), La politique du bulldozer (2016), and his most recent, States of Emergency: A Spatial History of the French Colonial Continuum (2021).
For the sofa, Léopold will share the workings of The Funambulist as an editorial and political project, a platform built on slowness, solidarity and open access, bringing together activists, academics and practitioners across geographies to expand our shared political imaginaries.
Join us for fresh discussions, open dialogue, and an evening where everyone has a seat at the conversation, wrapping things up with a drink!
