context / site:

  • E17 – railroad 50A – Corneel Heymanslaan – Noendries
  • Q8 – Aldi – Vosmeers – Desco …
  • Campus Heymans Faculteit Farmaceutische Wetenschappen
  • UZ Gent

challenges:

  • isolated programs
  • privat worlds
  • programmatic no man’s land
  • dead-end city
  • scale discrepancies
  • indetermined in-between space
  • drive through space

focus:

  • connecting the city
  • charging the ground level
  • developing an all-sided urban fabric
  • creating recognizability
  • from (below) ground level to (beyond) the roof
  • participative design by:
  • a spatial structure, discover, analyze, cataloging,

how:

  • in its proportions
    with distance and spacing,
on a grid or just off grid
    recognizable or sterile,in (material)element or (building)piece,
  • and working on/with this spaciousness
-infilling – breaking in – pluging in
    -charging – unlocking – programming,
    -duplicate – deepen – multiply,
    -mirror – stack – stop,

purpose:

  • to explore the space, the place
    – the scale
    – the void / the full / the in-between
    – the context: below it, above it, away from it,
  • this research, what is researched,
    diversify programmatically,
    – develop (horizontally / vertically / 3-dimensionally / diagonally)
    – individual or collective
    – lighting / ventilating / heating

the studio
an exercise in density, or just not.
an exercise in making space
and taking space.
