Marine Mamikonian: Architectural Documentary of observations; A Series of Architecture Portraits; Maastricht (NL) and Gent (BE)

The age of anxiety..
Like any other social phenomenon, architecture reflects the current state of its inhabitants. When the society is facing the global crisis such as pandemic, the urban life is transforming as well. As opposed to the intention of any city, which is characterised by the permanency and the poetry of its encounters, the vacancy of the public areas is necessary for its safety. Urban life is played out differently, we have absented ourselves from almost all public spaces, where we study, work and meet each other, as we realise that life now depends on our departure from it.
Close encounters with a desolate city

Architectural Documentary of observations; A Series of Architecture Portraits is part of the Incipient Raum studio. It explores the visual engagement with the city during the pandemic and the relation of this engagement on the material organisation of the city itself. The approach of this investigation has been generated with reference to portfolio, as a result of the experiences from the previous design studio projects. As Architectural Drawing became, in a way, a centre of my architectural education, the overview of previous works allowed to interpret what have impacted my vision, what was important in my training. The intention of the architectural research was in transmitting through the act of digital and analogue drawings the current state of seclusion and that of being tied to a certain place.
