Extended deadline for submission: Treescape Design Summer School

We would like to inform you that this summer the KU Leuven is organizing the Treescape Summer School ‘Under the trees, into the woods’, which will take place on August 19-27, 2021.*

Are you a creative designer (architect, urban designer or landscape architect), do you want to learn more about how to intertwine trees and forests within the built-up fabric of an urbanized territory and develop new spatial concepts and strategies for this together with a multidisciplinary group of designers, ecologists and forest engineers, with input and supervision from (international) experts …

then the Treescape summer school might be something for you! The deadline for submission has been extended to June 5, 2021.

The aim of the Treescape design summer school is to explore and test new spatial systems, strategies and concepts to intertwine more trees and forests within the fabric of urbanized territories. Because worldwide, (sub)urbanized regions are looking for strategies to plant more urban trees and forests in order to enlarge the tree canopy cover. The spatial focus of the summer school will be on the interfaces where urban trees and forests meet up and interact with for example housing/working/food production/mobility, where synergies can arise but ‘frictions’ as well. Within the design approach, the emphasis will be on landscape-architectural and social-ecological aspects. Various lectures and supervision from (inter)national experts are planned, but are yet to be confirmed. If possible, invited local experts and stakeholders will give punctual input and feedback.

Please find the poster for the summer school in attachment to this mail. More information and updates are available on the project’s Facebook page.

We welcome young and enthusiastic master students, recent graduates and young researchers in the fields of Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Urban Design or Urban Planning, and Forestry to participate in the Treescape design summer school.

The extended deadline to submit applications is June 5, 2021 via an e-mail to bjoke.carron@kuleuven.be. Candidates are invited to send their CV and a motivation letter (maximum 300 words in English) with maximum 3 images of own projects (150 dpi).
