A memorial was built in Las Aradas, El Salvador, thanks to the perseverance of the survivors of the Sumpul massacre. The exhibition invites visitors to explore the process of creating this memorial, along with the stories, voices, and connections that shaped it. It is an opportunity for everyone to share, listen, and exchange ideas.
The book presented at the opening draws on the historical memory of the communities affected. It brings together the voices of survivors, community members, architects, artists, and researchers from various universities.
Through these intersecting paths, it traces the collaboration among Asociación Sumpul, the Faculty of Architecture at KU Leuven, Escuela de Arte de la Universidad de El Salvador, Western University, Colectivo Matiz, and AgwA architecture.
The exhibition extends this reflection through artworks, historical documents, images, and testimonies. It draws on previous exhibitions devoted to the subject: “Memorial de la Masacre del Río Sumpul,” presented in March 2024 during Romero Day at KU Leuven, at KADOC. “Un Catorce de Mayo: Memorial de la masacre del Río Sumpul,” presented at the Centro Cultural de España in El Salvador, in July–August 2024.
