Exploring Research Backstage: Failing Forward
SAVE THE DATE – International Research Seminar
Monday 13 October, 13:00–18:00 – Sint-Lucas Ghent campus
Room C15 and D002, Alexianenplein 2, Gent
The Department of Architecture welcomes five recently graduated PhD researchers, each with distinct backgrounds, methods, and areas of focus. What unites them: their research and making go hand in hand. This seminar highlights design-led research in different forms, showing how methodologies are developed and redefined through practice. The presenters will share what usually remains hidden behind the polished final thesis document: how their projects unfolded, which challenges emerged, their unexpected victories, and how failure became part of the discovery process.
Format:
Part I (public): Short presentations:
- Daniela Ruggeri — Between the Mediterranean and the Sahara: André Ravéreau and the M’Zab Valley
- Michaela Caserini — Drawing Observational Method: An Architectural Ethnographic Investigation in Chamanculo C, Maputo, Mozambique
- Paddi Benson — (Mis)Navigating Island Topoi
- Anna Pompermaier & Cenk Güzelis (Me AndOther Me) — Reclaiming Web Protocols: Spatial Internet Beyond Mainstream Platforms
Part II (for researchers): An open conversation on the seminar theme (failing forward) to share strategies, questions, and practical takeaways.
