Project work and plans of the Téchne network

KU Leuven has been part of the Téchne network since the summer of 2020. This World Health Organization network of architects, engineers, designers and public health practitioners from several institutions globally, responds and prepares to acute public health events with urgent and customized support. It has played a key role in the current epidemic and has provided its highly specialized multidisciplinary technical competencies to a variety of Téchne projects. These have included:

– ‘Point of entry’ facility designs utilizing context-specific construction materials; e.g., bamboo, bricks and/or wood

– Base camp designs with High Performance Tents and prefab structures

– The hospital of tomorrow, new design for changing rooms

– The hospital of tomorrow, outdoor info-point for wayfinding and users’ reception
