Kleur is een essentieel onderdeel van kunst, interieurarchitectuur en architectuur. Kleur draagt bij tot een bepaalde onderliggende betekenis voor de kunstenaar, de articulatie van architecturale elementen in gebouwen – of kan de contouren van een ruimte helpen opheffen. Kortom, kleur is een belangrijk middel voor kunstenaars en ontwerpers. De kleurenwaaier is niet verwonderlijk een onontbeerlijk instrument van interieurontwerpers.
Toch is de attentie voor het gebruik van kleur in de architectuur de laatste decennia wat meer op de achtergrond geraakt. Dit was ooit anders. Modernistische ontwerpers gingen vaak heel bewust om met kleur. De manier waarop kleur ingezet werd kent vele vormen, van de primaire kleurenpaletten bij de Stijlbeweging tot het verzadigd kleurgebruik van Le Corbusier. Ook binnen de beeldende kunsten werd het specifiek inzetten van kleur kenmerkend tijdens het modernisme. In Wonen in kleur wordt stilgestaan bij kleur om de bewustwording ervan te vergroten. Dit gebeurt zowel aan de hand van een tentoonstelling die focust op kleur als bindend element in de interactie tussen naoorlogse kunst en interieurarchitectuur, als workshops en een colloquium over kleurgebruik in modernistische architectuur en interieurarchitectuur.

Deze expo focust specifiek op de activiteiten in Antwerpen en de opleidingen aan de Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten en het Nationaal Hoger Instituut voor Bouwkunst en Stedenbouw in de periode 1946 tot 1979. Met werk van ondermeer Jozef Peeters, Jul De Roover, Camiel Van Breedam, Renaat Braem, Willy van der Meeren, Elli Kruithof, Raymond Goyvaerts, Leon Steynen, Bataille & Ibens, Jef Verheyen en Pieter De Bruyne. Colour is often an essential aspect of art, interior architecture and architecture. It can for instance contribute to a particular meaning for the artist, it can articulate architectural elements in buildings – or eliminate the contours of a space. In short, colour can be an important means for artists and designers. Not accidently is the colour chart an indispensable tool for interior architects.
However, the attention to the use of colour in architecture has in recent decades decreased. This was once different. Modernist architects employed colour very consciously. Colour was applied in several ways, ranging from the primary colour palette of De Stijl to saturated colours applied by Le Corbusier. Also the use of colour within the visual arts was remarkable during modernism. The aim of Living in Colour is to increase an awareness of the qualities and properties of colours. This is done both through an exhibition that focuses on colour as common ground in the interaction between post-war art and interior architecture, as well as workshops and a conference on the use of colour in modernist architecture and interior architecture.
