Faculty of Architecture helps the WHO-Téchne network enhance pandemic resilience

KU Leuven, as part of the WHO’s Technical Science for Health Network (WHO-Téchne), has been offering support  to the World Health Organisation (WHO) since last summer.

In consultation with the vice rector the Sciences and Technology Group, the dean and vice deans of the Faculty of Architecture, a group of faculty members and motivated students have launched into an intense collaboration with the WHO-helpdesk, designing new facilities to enhance pandemic resilience as well as re-purposing existing buildings into self-quarantine, screening and treatment centers.

Under the guidance of Bruno Depré, Koen De Wandeler and Dirk Jaspaert , the KU Leuven team set off with a summer school attended by 16 Master students. They continued into the academic year with 12 Master students who enrolled in the elective Participation in International Projects. The work of all network partners will be available on the WHO-Téchne website that is soon to be launched.
